New Venue for Tacoma Breakfast
Friday March 11, 2011 will be
the Support-a-Scout Luncheon at the Hotel Murano in
Tacoma. This event replaces the Tacoma breakfast with
much nicer venue, and of course, it is now a luncheon.
Anyone may come to the luncheon and we need help in getting
tables filled. Consider filling a table of 8 with any
type of business group; a unit may also sponsor a table.
If you cannot make it, it is alright to send in your pledge
card and take advantage of the nice commemorative coin sets
with your tax deductable donation to support Scouting in
2011. Email Tracy to
RSVP and/or host a
table. See

Scouting For Food
is
rapidly approaching. Door hangers will be available
very soon and should be placed by the scouts on March 19th.
Food pickup will be on March 26th with a coordinated
drop-off site for each district. More information (and
possibly the door hangers) will be available at February
Round Table. Get your scouts ready - we gathered tons
of food last year and plan to make the 2011 effort even
better!

The
Golden Eagle Dinner
recently raised nearly $140,000.00 to kick-off the Council's
Friends of Scouting for the new year. 2010 Mrs.
Washington Carla Richards (who is also a very experienced
Den Leader) was the speaker. Here is a photo of Pack
and Troop 148 Color Guard at the Golden Eagle Dinner with
Mrs. Carla Richards

Centennial Gala
The Gala Dance was a fun way to end 2010, and the year-long
100th birthday party of Scouting. Carla talked about
her platform of "Embracing the Special Needs Child" at both
events and we loved hearing her Scouting story.
(See
her blog for more council event photos and the Autism
and Scouting

Scouts gather at Camp Thunderbird for some good old
fashioned fun! Where you can shoot up a target or
two, swim, boat, hike, climb, and laugh, all in the
great outdoors. Resident Camp is two nights and
three days of adventure where you and your pals will
meet new friends. During their stay Cub Scouts will
work on activity pins, belt loops, learn skits and
songs. Most of all they will learn while having fun
with other Cub Scouts and the Boy Scout Staff. A
lifetime of great memories are made at camp…Cub

opportunity for Webelos (I & II) and adults to enjoy a fun
and learning-filled weekend with Boy Scouts and Scouting
adults. (Registrations will be limited to the first 50
Cubs). Webelos participate in typical Boy Scout
activities while learning basic Boy Scout skills such as
fire building, safe knife use, first aid, knots and
lashings, and setting up a tent. Webelos are assigned to
patrols, and their patrols will include Webelos from other
Packs. Saturday afternoon, Webelos will participate in
competitions focusing on the skills learned. A Fire
Bowl is planned for Friday and Saturday nights and Webelos
participate in the fun. Webelos adults have the
opportunity to meet with experienced Scouting adults and
learn about the Boy Scout program.

What is a Klondike?
Klondike’s start with a
"Dog Team"
(so-called because Scouts act as Huskies) and a snow sled on
an expedition. A score sheet given to the Patrol
Leader at registration. The score card lists the
stations along the trail. The stations can be visited
in any order you like, but if the station is backed up,
instead of waiting try another station; so the boys get a
lot of "dog" sledding in. A practical problem
involving basic Scouting skills will be encountered at each
stop. Depending on how well the team works out this
contest problem, it will be awarded a number of "gold"
points and have its score sheet marked and be off to the
next station. All patrols must visit all stations. After the
final station, the team is to report to the registration
station to have your score sheets checked and recorded. The
skills that will be tested are - First Aid, Orienteering,
Lashing, Knot Tying, Team Skills, Fire Building & Cooking,
Shelter Building, and Estimating.
