What is Friends of Scouting?

First, the basics: the Friends of Scouting campaign is the council’s annual giving campaign that assists us in supporting local activities, events and youth programs here at Pacific Harbors Council. Friends of Scouting (or FOS) represents the council’s second largest source of income and includes gifts from members, community partners, businesses, volunteers, and community members who know the value of Scouting in the South Sound.

During the campaign PHC volunteers and supporters visit Pack and Troop meetings as well as service organizations, businesses and more asking for support. Funding through this campaign is essential for Pacific Harbors Council to continue to provide services.

Donations assist us in providing:

  1. Training opportunities for our volunteers so they are confident and impactful in their leadership roles.
  2. Maintenance and staffing the council owned Camp Thunderbird in Thurston County for activities and camp programming.
  3. All of our Council level Scouting programs and activities including Camporee, WashJam, Klondike, Cub Scout Day Camp, night hike and many more. These essential programs and activities encourage leadership, community participation, outdoor skills, physical fitness, and environmental conservation among others.
  4. Our Campership program that offers free and reduced summer camp for Scouts BSA and Cub Scouts who cannot afford to go otherwise.
  5. Supports our Growing Leaders Fund. This is a Scholarship available from the Council to reduce National registration fees and Council insurance fee for ANY Scout who may need it.

Employer Donation Match Programs

Some companies, possibly including the one for which you work will match their employees’ charitable contributions. Be sure to see whether your workplace has such a program. If so, you’ll double your impact. Often this includes letting your employer know you have made a donation and they will contact us to verify. After verifying they send along a second donation matching yours to Pacific Harbors Council.

Summit Club

Join our new Summit Club! The Summit Club is a group of Scouting supporters that donate to Scouting on a monthly basis. More information and registration for this opportunity can be found here.

Endowment

When people think about Scouting, chances are they think about kids, not dollars.

For a council, a healthy endowment is critical for providing a steady source of funding for a variety of purposes, including day-to-day operating expenses, hiring additional staff, and financing improvements to camp facilities. Endowment can also serve as a rainy-day fund to help a council weather tough economic times without having to cut back on services to youth.

To assist local councils in their efforts to build stronger endowments, the National Council launched a nationally coordinated endowment campaign in 1993.

Thanks to the campaign, endowment growth has been fostered through the James E. West Fellowship, The 1910 Society, and the Founders Circle Award, which provide recognition for those who make significant contributions.

Serving more youth is the ultimate goal.

Donate Stock

Stock donations can be made to the Pacific Harbors Council through Charles Schwab.

Our policy is to sell the stock as soon as we control it. This usually happens a few days after your gift is received, due to the exchange process.
