Bushmaster NYLT is a weeklong experience based on the activities of a typical unit during a month of program. The course is a combination of classroom and practical exercises, all taught by a youth staff, modeling the best in leadership skills, using the teaching E.D.G.E. The course is about vision-based team building with a wide variety of fun and challenging activities.
This course is a co-ed course open to Scouts BSA and Venture Crew Members. Scoutmasters and Crew Advisors select, nominate and fill out a unit leader recommendation for the participants who may attend NYLT, sending those who currently or will soon hold key leadership positions in the Unit. Scouts attending must be at least 14 years old or 13 years old and have completed the 8th grade by the first day of the course and fall within the maximum age allowance for their program. They must be First Class or Higher and have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops, Crews or Ships. It is recommended that they have had at least one year of camping experience. While NYLT is not an outdoor skills course, it is important that each participant have basic camping and outdoor cooking experience.
